Everyone knows what soft drinks are and what they taste like. Sickeningly sweet, sometimes fruity, and enough carbonation to make you burp for ages! They are widely loved, just as much as health experts and fanatics despise them. So are they Halal and suitable for Vegans and Vegetarians?
Why Did They Become So Popular?
Originally, soft drinks were made for medicinal purposes, people thought. A common misconception is that Coca-Cola was first made as medicine, but not. It was invented by a doctor and pharmacist, Dr. John S Pemberton, who started selling it in Jacob's Pharmacy in 1886. Back in the day, pharmacies that served soft drinks were respectable, whereas bars serving alcohol were not. Even today, carbonated beverages are considered wholesome alternatives to alcoholic beverages.
What Makes Soft Drinks Bad For Us
Of course, anything is good in moderation and potentially harmful in excess. It is especially true for soft drinks. We are told not to drink more than a can or two a day, but in reality, we shouldn't even drink it as often as every day! Most soft drinks have extremely high concentrations of sugars, and consuming them so often will lead to weight gain, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions.
In today's world, much of the food we consume is loaded with preservatives and added sugars, so obesity rates and health issues are rising globally. Moreover, many countries do not have Halal Certifications because some ingredients are dissolved in alcohol. It does not make them not Halal, though. Soft drinks are not all bad, but tracking how much sugar you are consuming is extremely important. As pleasurable soft drinks maybe, they can cause issues to your teeth, digestive system, heart, and overall health.
The Good in Soft Drinks
Soft drinks are considered Halal, Vegan and Vegetarian. They may sound like they can go against the healthy Vegan/Vegetarian lifestyle, but they do not. Soft drinks can contribute to a healthy,
enjoyable diet. Consuming them along with the recommended daily water intake will help you easily meet your body's fluid requirements.
Not all soft drinks are made with ungodly amounts of sugar. Remember that soft drinks are an umbrella term for all carbonated beverages, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. For example, 7up and Sprite can be helpful when you have indigestion or get gassy and help reduce nausea. And they are Halal too!
In general, soft drinks do not contain any alcohol, even though some ingredients are dissolved. They don't contain any animal-based ingredients that make them non-vegan. As long as you consume any soft drink, or carbonated beverages, in good moderation and maintain a balanced diet, you've got nothing to worry about. Additionally, the soft drinks you'll get from us are all Halal, Vegan and Vegetarian.
